May is Mental Health Awareness Month
LACERA is committed to the wellbeing of our members and their families. We invite you to help promote and practice mental health this month and all year round.
Mental health disorders are incredibly common, affecting about one in five U.S. adults each year. Depression and anxiety are the most common disorders for all populations, and public service workers are particularly at risk due to the emotional demands and exposure risks of their jobs.
We encourage you to be familiar with the signs of mental distress—in others and yourself—and be ready to offer or seek out support and resources. Timely action is essential, since mental health disorders can get worse over time and are associated with a higher suicide risk.
Access our Mental Health Awareness brochure for essential facts, programs available to LACERA members and families, and crisis and non-emergency support numbers.
This month is also the perfect time to reflect on your wellbeing and focus on self-care, regardless of whether you are experiencing a crisis. For practical tips, activities, and interactive tools for feeling your best every day, visit Mental Health America’s 2026 Mental Health Month Action Guide.
