UFCW Kaiser Permanente Strike Ends, UNAC/UHCP Strike Continues
Kaiser Permanente has notified LACERA that all six United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) local unions in Southern California, which began striking on February 9, concluded their strike at 5 a.m. on February 12. As a result, all laboratory and pharmacy tech employees represented by UFCW will be returning to work.
While the UFCW strike has ended, it is important to note that the Kaiser Permanente employees who are represented by the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals (UNAC/UHCP) continue to be on strike at several facilities in California and Hawaii.
In Southern California, some members are experiencing disruptions due to this ongoing labor activity, including pharmacy closures and increased wait times at certain locations. To mitigate these impacts, Kaiser is directing members to open locations. While some pharmacies are temporarily closed, many others remain operational and are actively serving members.
Additionally, Kaiser has a mail order pharmacy service that provides shipping at no cost. For non-urgent medications, this option is an alternative that can reduce the need to visit a pharmacy in person.
